This is the first time i spent Christmas away.. Left on 24 Dec (Happy Birthday Baby) and back on 27 Dec.. Never been to Penang.. Heard there are lots and lots of good food there...

We walked alot and ate alot too!!

The flight only took us an hour.. before i knew it we were in Penang!..
The hotel was pretty disappointing as the lobby was pathetic the rooms were quite small but adequate for both of us.. but once there was an extra bed in the room, it looked very cramped..
Baby was quite pissed there was no fridge in the hotel room..
The only consolation was the room was clean.. very important factor..

Sorry i will try to book a better hotel the next time.. this was the best offer i could find during the Christmas season.. the others were damn bloody expensive!!

We went around walking in the neighborhood looking for food!!.. we stumbled on a small traditional tea house.. The owner is very nice and helpful...

We had steamboat bbq for dinner which was not very good.. went back to the hotel early to rest as jie was ill and we had an early tour the next day..

Started off the day really really early.. the sun wasn't even up when we left the hotel to look for breakfast.. we had dim sum at a nearby place and started our tour at 8am.. Uncle Allen, our guide for the day was really nice..

First stop was to a Guan yin temple on top of a hill.. really big! The octagon pavillion housing Guan Yin made it to the Guinness book of records!

This was the previous Guan Yin statue.. it collapsed one day. Everything was smashed except the head..

No battery on my camera as i forgot to charge.. spent the day shopping and eating shopping and eating.. We nad Dim sum, kaya toast coffee for breakfast, lunch porridge and dishes at a roadside store, Char kway teow, Hokkien mee, Popiah, curry chee cheong fan, fruit rojak for tea and dinner more dim sum!!.. never had a moment of hunger that day..

NoT So BeAuTiFuL BaLi

After much hesitation, we finally decided to go ahead with our Bali trip.. i booked the air tickets way way ahead at the start of the year.. Only cost us $30 a person!!... Actually thought of forging the trip and we only decided a few days before the trip and hence could not find a decently cheap hotel near where i wanted to be.. but everything turned out ok of cos haha.. Just that the weather there was freaking hot..


Departure - 21 Oct 09

The plane was late so we were all seated there waiting..

We arrived at Bali at about 930pm.. the hotel was supposed to arrange for a driver to pick us up.. there were so many drivers waiting at the arrival gates but none of them wrote our names or our hotel.. we waited and walked around the drivers hoping to stumble on our names but our driver just did not appear..

In the end, we had to take a taxi to the hotel.. I asked the reception why no one picked us at the airport and she said the driver said the flight was delayed.. RUBBISH! we landed as planned on 9.20pm.. on the dot! tsk.. bad first impression already..

The hotel is in a very ulu place so there was no place for us to take a bite near the hotel.. we had to order room service..

Day 2 -22 Oct 09

In the morning, we could see better.. i found out we have an outdoor shower!

The walk out from the hotel to the main stretch of shopping at Seminyak took us about 15 mins..
the weather was scorching hot!..

We then took a taxi to Matahari at the DFS building.. just as we entered the building we were stopped by a balinese man.. his co is holding a contest for tourists and he gave us 2 lucky draw slips to open.. baby got 2 free t-shirts and i got the STAR PRIZE!!.. of cos i was skeptical.. i have never won anything in in entire life.. how can this be possible???

Of cos it was not possible. there is always a catch.. we had to follow him back to his resort and hear them for at least 1 hour before i can claim my STAR PRIZE.. like idiots we followed him haha.. anyway it was a complete waste of time.. and guess wat? we got fooled twice!!

The first time we need not stay as i guess we did not look rich enough as compared to the amg mohs and got a booklet of vouchers worth US$300.. rubbish vouchers of cos.. and the 2nd time we got a free 8 days 7 nights stay at their resort.. and of cos subjected to their terms and conditions.. felt like an idiot can... Can you guess what the scam was?? TIME SHARE!

Well i wasted time and had to get back to eating and shopping haha...

after all the eating we took a stroll to Kuta beach.. not as nice as i expected it to.. the sand is greyish and hard..

We proceed to Jimbaran bay for seefood dinner by the beach.. but the taxi driver brought us to the wrong place.. we ended up at Jimbaran something... oh well.. it was not bad too..

Day 3 - 23 Oct 09

we hired a driver to bring us around..

our 8 hour tour begins!

he doesn't speak much English so we had some trouble communication with him..

I told my driver: No more temples please

we went up the mountain to see volcano...
the wind was damn shiok.. together with our Bintang beer..

We stopped ny Ubud for lunch!.. our driver took us to a duck diner...

We were quite disappointed with out driver as he did not understand wat we wanted to see and where we wanted to go...

We managed to find the surf factory outlet and bought some stuff... it was up to 80% off!!
we also went to Ku De Ta to help Jas find some CDs but they stopped selling them already..
She said if you are not married you cannot visit the place with your boy/girlfriend.. cos you will end up breaking up.. heng we are married haha...

The place looks very posh.. we even need to get our bags checked at the entrance to the car park.. partons were all ang mohs and they were all dressed up!.. i look like dirt in my shorts haha.. We decided to venture down the road to find other food...

Day 4 - 24 Oct 09

Its going home day... we had a few hours left before the flight so we took a welk and settled for Balinese coffee for the last time..

Time to go home... overall Bali was ok.. very hot and overrated beaches!
